Tasting Notes

Skywalk is named after the lookout which is affixed to the side of Castle Rock itself, providing great views of the surrounding area. A full and flavoursome style Riesling with a rich and balanced palate.

A blend of all our Riesling blocks. Fruit was machine harvested, with only the medium pressings juice being used in the wine. Juice underwent a cool ferment in stainless steel tank with inoculated yeast. Short maturation before bottling to retain freshness.

Pale lemon colour. Characteristic musk sticks and florals combo on the nose, with subtle ground coriander spice. An approachable and plush palate, full of musk and Meyer lemon. The wine exhibits lovely richness in check with the delicate acid structure. Subtle citrus pith providing texture. A wine providing immediate enjoyment, finishing fresh and playful.

Food Accompaniment: Enjoy now with a wide range of dishes from seafood to hot and spicy meals.

Cellaring Potential: Enjoy now or alternatively allow it to gain complexity and interest as it ages for up to 10 years.

94 Points “Dangerously delicious, call this Skywalk Riesling the entry level of the Castle Rock Estate range at your own peril. Pretty, vibrant and fabulously refreshing summarise it best. The best Skywalk I have seen to date, attractive aromas of Jasmine flowers, bath powder, citrus blossom and a touch of lavender spill from the glass. Juicy lemons and limes consume the mouth with a fine minerally drive. Some lime pith and a fine chalky texture see out a very, very tidy wine. Yes! Drink now.” Qwine Reviews

93 Points “Rob Diletti, Owner/ Winemaker of Castle Rock Estate and recently awarded the accolade of Winemaker of the Year by Ray Jordan’s Wine Review, has released a series of 5 Rieslings. This 2024 Skywalk Riesling is lively and bright in its delivery of aromas and flavours of grapefruit and jasmine blossoms top notes. The lingering palate-perception of residual sweetness coupled with crisp, fresh mid-palate lift makes it eminently approachable now. This is a sound, refreshing commercial young Riesling to be enjoyed over the current hot weather either by itself or matched with fresh seafood and Asian-style dishes.” Winelines, Gilbert Labour

92 Points “Rob Diletti is obviously having fun playing around with various styles of Riesling. This one, which is good value, is made in the exact same manner as his flagship, the Estate Riesling, with a single variation. Here, he looks to the “medium pressing portion from each Riesling block”. The colour is pale and yet a gleaming yellow, with the nose giving us notes of lemon curd, florals and orange blossoms. The structure comes off as slightly more forward than some. This is a soft and lingering style, with gentle acidity. For drinking over the next half dozen years and one to enjoy while the others from this year’s release are coming around.” Winepilot, Ken Gargett

“Big blousy bouquet of rich, ripe citrus – lemons and limes. A hint of fruit sweetness on the front palate, drying out, leading to a crisp bright finish via a fruit driven mid-palate. VERY DRINKABLE.” Winelines, Dan Traucki

“Riesling offers some of the best buying in Australia right now – and it is a great wine choice as we head into the warmer months. Rob Diletti, winemaker at his family’s Castle Rock estate in the Porongurups in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, has no fewer than five current release rieslings in his range, all of them excellent. This is one of the entry level wines but it’s a sparky, spunky number full of youthful vigour. Cool ferment in stainless steel equals lemony flavours, vibrancy, a dry finish and a wine that is dangerously drinkable when served lightly chilled. Pair with a seafood platter.” Wine of the Week, Winsor Dobbin
