All estate fruit. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, free run juice and medium pressings, light settling before being racked to barrel with some solids. Fermented and matured in older French Puncheons and Barriques, left on lees for 5 months with minimal stirring.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Bright, pale lemon.
Bouquet: Funk and flint up front on the nose from the barrel ferment, backed by pear and hints of lemon curd.
Palate: Palate shows great fruit weight and intensity, with bouquet characters carrying through. This is framed by barrel derived texture interwoven with natural acidity. The wine is fresh and slippery with a medium finish.
Food accompaniment: Traditionally pairs well with delicate meats, think roast pork or veal schnitzel. Alternatively, Fish and Chips on a warm sunny day.
Cellaring potential: Up to 10 years with careful cellaring.
91 Points “Lemon myrtle, lemon balm. Savoury, root-vegetable feel with green, bitter citrus. Parsnip, lemon blossom, jasmine. Massive crunch and spice of white radish. Very fresh, well-defined flavours, finishing cool with green grapefruit pith. Piquant texture. A very tasty Gruner.” Winefront, Kasia Sobiesiak
90 Points “A sidestep for the stalwart riesling producer, but still in the aromatic white mode. Scents of flinty and smoky/mineral characters, green apple and juniper. Flavours also lead with smoky/slate-like mineral things but with juicy, green apple and nashi pear notes woven through. Some distinct grüner personality here, and a charming drink is the message.
