In some exciting Pinot Noir news, the true identity of our beloved WA Droopy clone has been uncovered!
Turns out it is the D4V2 clone of Pinot Noir commonly referred to as ‘Pommard’ due to where the original material was sourced. We’ll still be referring to it as ‘WA Droopy’, but it’s great to finally shed some light on the heritage of our most planted and preferred Pinot Noir clone.
WA Droopy was the first and is the most planted clone at Castle Rock Estate. It is well suited to our site, producing premium quality wines with great depth of flavour and structure. The Castle Rock Estate ‘A&W’ Pinot Noir is a perfect example of this WA Droopy in action.
