Castle Rock Estate Riesling 2019

Recommended Retail Price - $25

Colour: A light and pale colour with green hues.

Bouquet: Intense lime juice backed by a delicate fragrance of orange blossom and lavender giving a bouquet that is zesty and fresh, yet also of great depth.

Palate: The feature of the palate is the tightly wound structure that is enveloped by beautiful rich lime juice fruit characters. This fruit richness provides the generosity and succulence that is so appealing as a young wine. The core of natural acidity creates that great structure, finesse and length for the wine. The balance between the fruit generosity and tight acid structure is the hallmark of Castle Rock Rieslings. Lively, crisp and with an attractive delicacy now, this wine will blossom with age for at least fifteen years.

Ideal aperitif wine, will also accompany fish, delicate crustacean and mild Asian dishes.

Excellent ageing potential. It will continue to improve through its first year and then plateau, should drink well for at least 15 years.

"95 Points.  WINE OF THE WEEK A pure and refined riesling with extraordinary aromatic focus and lift. Sweet blossoms and citrus on the nose; a line of ripe lime flavours, supported by a defined core of acidity, on the palate; and a flavour burst on the finish. Take care not to over-chill. A steal at this price." Toni Paterson MW, The Real Review, Nov 2018

"96 Points Top 100 Wines of 2018. This wine is right up there in the gods of Porongurup, long, intense and precise, the balance perfect. Mature vines and Rob Diletti’s skills are a potent combination."  James Halliday

"95 Points Perfumed on the nose, powerful on the palate, long on the finish. In excellent form. Slate, lemon, fennel and lime blossoms. Ripper." The Wine Front, Campbell Mattinson, Nov 2018

"96 Points This has been a perennial favourite of mine, a wine that is consistently beautiful in it’s youth and inspired with age.  A classical nose of orange blossom, jasmine, lime and crushed rock. The palate show citrus fruits that are laced with floral tones that are the hallmark of Castle Rock; there is a saline acidity that gives the wine expansive depth and makes it one of the more morish wines you can try. Lemon rind provides flavour and texture to finish and is swept along by precise lime fruits. A wine worth hunting down."  Wine Revewer, Dec 2018

" 94 points  Another outstanding release from Castle Rock. The secret here is no secret, it’s just purity of fruit. A pristine nose of lemongrass, green melon and a lime/grapefruit palate, the acid gives refreshment but not harshness, the shape just unquestionably fresh and lively and Riesling-ariffic (yes that’s a word). Model WA Riesling. Best drinking: I like these young, or wait for five years. Drink until September and then hold for five. 18.5/20" Oz Wine Review, Jan 2019

"92 Points  Light straw-yellow hue. The aroma is clean and fresh, dried herb and straw-like, but quite reserved, with some free sulfur showing. The wine is all-round very restrained and seems to be holding back its charms. The palate is dominated by its acidity and yet has purity and refinement. I suspect it will blossom if allowed time. Mouth-watering acidity..." Huon Hooke, Nov 2018

"A pristine lemon-lime style that is long-flavoured, precise and bone-dry. The fresh acidity lingers, enlivening the finish. ($25.00) ★★★★☆" Wine Wise Magazine

"Near water-clear in the glass. Subtle, delicate aromas with minerally white rocks and soft white blossoms, An exquisitely textured palate that shows precision at all times. The fruit that does show now is light citrus with a crisp, juicy green apple acid profile. The tail trails long with persistence and balance in lock step. Utterly delicious." Vinonotebook, Regan Drew, Nov 2018

"Add up the accolades bestowed on this wine, including best riesling at
Western Australia’s top wine show, and you can’t possibly trump it for quality, price and value. From the Great Southern region, delivering an amazing amalgam of fresh citrus fruit flavours that’ll only get better with time." Sunday Telegraphy, John Fordham, Nov 2018

"93 Points  Wonderfully fragrant Riesling from Western Australia's Great Southern. It's all lemongrass and kaffir lime, from aromatics alone I was expecting a tropical fruit sorbet of sorts.  It's bracing, with a fine acidic crunch and spread across the palate, all lime juice in a length of great satisfaction. It goes fantastically now, yet that natural acidity could yet see its best days ahead of it.  Impressive in many ways." The Vinsomniac, Nov 2018

"...A fine looking Riesling indeed and the price makes it even more attractive." Words from a Wineglass
