ASSESSMENTColour: Deep red colour.
Bouquet: A classic cool-climate Shiraz nose which shows plum fruit, spice and black pepper characters. There is some subtle complexity and quality French oak characters of char and cedar.
Palate: A rich and generous front palate fills the mouth with plum fruits. There is a thread of black pepper running the length of the palate, reminding us of its cool climate origins. The wine has great poise and balance thanks to balanced acidity and firm yet ripe tannins. This also provides power and drive, yet, wonderful restraint. The high quality French oak adds cedary characters and blends really well with the cool climate spice notes. The wine has great length and the flavours linger in the mouth long after the wine has gone.FOOD ACCOMPANIMENTAn ideal complement to red meats and hearty dishes. Will also go well with ripe cheeses at the end of a meal.
CELLARING POTENTIAL Will continue to improve and develop complexity with age; cellar for 8 to 10 years.

REVIEWS & AWARDS:
95 Points "A superb wine from beginning to end, just thought I would get straight to the point right from the start. Blackish purple ink staining the glass, still a baby in its infancy. A complex red with lashings of cool climate blackberry, currants, spice and white pepper off the nose. Fruit, fruit, deep luxuriant spicy fruit all the way. An alluring set of aromas that have "gotcha" all over them. A smooth deep long palate of berry fruit, imparted with judicious oak, measured and accompanied with low acidity and fine effortless tannins. A big red wine but with class and elegance and depth of character and potential plus. Drinkable yes but put-away-able as well. At least ten to fifteen years here plus...Superb." Paulippolito.com.au
94 Points "Medium-bodied in a beautiful way. Clove, peppercorn, plum and black cherry flavours sweep through the palate in satiny style. There's barely a kink nor a ruffle. It has a clear savoury, gently meaty edge and it's all the better for it. Price is better than reasonable." 2021 Wine Companion, Campbell Mattinson
93 Points "Medium red colour with a tinge of purple. The bouquet is very spicy with peppery notes and definitive cool-grown elements. Light to medium-bodied, soft textured, easy to drink and very charming. Long finish. A touch of licorice. Delicious wine. Cellar: 2019-2019" Huon Hooke, Oct 2019
92 Points "Rob Diletti is one of the most talented producers in Australia... A medium red in the glass with a nose of pepper, plum and some charcuterie notes that are lifted by vanillin richness. The plate has expansive dark berry fruits that are carried by a baseline of drying tannin that has coffee and vanillin tones with rhubarb and red cherry alongside a fine dusting of earth framing the finish." The Wine Reviewer, Sept 2019
90 Points "Oh I like this. Granite and minerally feels are packed in with plenty of savoury medium-bodied fruit. A quarter of this saw new French oak. Whole bunches were also used (20%) with plenty of savoury characteristics the result. Char, black pepper and raspberries dipped in dark chocolate get you in the mood. The fruit sways through the mouth at a neat tempo flanked by soft spices. Still a little tense, bright acid and a long finish cap off a more than satisfying drop.." QWine, Aug 2019
17.75/20 "Definitely playing in the cool climate spectrum of shiraz, with blueberry and ground pepper, over fresh cut beefsteak, baking spices, liqueur cherry chocolate and plum finishing with an earthy/sweet beet. A smooth, earthen palate: Focused dark cherry and plum redolent with woody cedar and black peppercorn spice. A more-ish texture and a medium length finish. Top value." Vinonotebook, Regan Drew.
"It’s a very inviting nose to kick things off. Pepper and spice and all things berry nice. Plenty of flavour to take in that’s for sure. Plums and spicy dark cherries with a touch of blackberry. Savouriness with the addition of pepper in both ebony and ivory form on the medium bodied palate. It’s quite an elegant style of Shiraz with a bit of finesse about it too, and while the tannins are evident, they are complimentary to the smooth lingering finish." Words from a Wineglass, Sept 2019
"... the rockstar of the stable is undoubtedly the 2017 Castle Rock Estate Shiraz. It’s not just great juice, but the quality of the offer belies its $30 price tag." Travis Schultz
"The wine displays aromas of plum fruit, spice and black pepper. The palate fills the mouth with plum fruits. It has balanced acidity and ripe tannins. French oak adds cedary characters and blends well with the spice notes. The wine has great length..." Have-a-Go News, Frank Smith, Oct 2019
