Bronze - Wine Show of Western Australia 2018

Colour: Deep red colour.

Bouquet: A classic cool-climate Shiraz nose which shows plum fruit, spice and black pepper characters. There is some subtle complexity and quality French oak characters of char and cedar.

Palate: A rich and generous front palate fills the mouth with plum fruits. There is a thread of black pepper running the length of the palate, reminding us of its cool climate origins. The wine has great poise and balance thanks to balanced acidity and firm yet ripe tannins. This also provides power and drive, yet, wonderful restraint. The high quality French oak adds cedary characters and blends really well with the cool climate spice notes. The wine has great length and the flavours linger in the mouth long after the wine has gone.

An ideal complement to red meats and hearty dishes. Will also go well with ripe cheeses at the end of a meal.

Will continue to improve and develop complexity with age; cellar for 8 to 10 years.

92/100 "Complete with delightfully balanced blackberry, briar - smooth, mellifluous fruit; firmish graphite tannin completes the picture. Medium bodied, nice freshness." The Vinsomniac

91/100   "A rich nose of cedar and Christmas cake spice with expansive plum fruit and background notes of integrated leather. A full bodied wine with balance; ripe black berry fruits have breadth and are amply supported by tannins that are laced with earth and leather. The finish is generous and mouth filling with oak and fruit meeting each other in equal measure. A very attractive WA Shiraz from the always impressive Castle Rock Estate." Wine Reviewer, Jan 2019

91/100  "Rock solid Shiraz from Castle Rock. A wine ticking the boxes - plenty of happiness lies within. The density and length are the highlights for me - there's plenty here to dig your claws into. All the varietal characteristics of a good Shiraz stand tall, but the fruit drives through flanked by dried herbs, exotic spices and balanced oak. Some leathery notes are starting to develop too. Fruit, savoury tones, acid, oak all swim in sync. Well worth a look. Drink now to eight years." QWine, Jan 2019

"This Shiraz, already almost 4 years old, opens up invitingly both to the nose and palate.  It presents as smoothly well-structured. The profile is evocative of plums, mixed herbs and pepper with a persistent vanillin oak long palate. The generous silky fruit component is counter-balanced by the 13.5% Alc, savouriness and supportive acid backbone. It delivers ample palate pleasure now but will support short term cellaring." The Grape Hunter, Jan 2019

"Here’s proof they make quality red wine too. Almost four years of age and still fresh. Plenty of spices: black pepper, vanilla bean, pipe tobacco and clove over plum and chocolate. Ripe, bright and ready to go." Morning Bulletin, Regan Drew, Jan 2019
