ASSESSMENT

Colour: A light and pale colour with green hues.

Bouquet: Intense lime juice backed by a delicate fragrance of orange blossom and lavender giving a bouquet that is zesty and fresh, yet also of great depth.

Palate: The feature of the palate is the tightly wound structure that is enveloped by beautiful rich lime juice fruit characters. This fruit richness provides the generosity and succulence that is so appealing as a young wine. The core of natural acidity creates that great structure, finesse and length for the wine. The balance between the fruit generosity and tight acid structure is the hallmark of Castle Rock Rieslings. Lively, crisp and with an attractive delicacy now, this wine will blossom with age for at least fifteen years.

FOOD ACCOMPANIMENT
Ideal aperitif wine, will also accompany fish, delicate crustacean and mild Asian dishes.

CELLARING POTENTIAL
Excellent ageing potential. It will continue to improve through its first year and then plateau, should drink well for at least 15 years.

Bottling Date: 14 June 2020

AWARDS & ACCOLADES

96 Points "Finely chiseled lime fruit with crushed rock and a twist of lemon on the nose. The palate has Incredible concentration of citrus fruits that is met by taut lines of acidity that give impressive length. Cut flowers add some contrast and feigned richness to finish. A wonderful release as expected from one of Australia’s finest producers of the variety." Winereviewer.com.au, Patrick Eckel

95 Point "... Super Riesling and what a way to celebrate winemaker Rob Diletti's 20th vintage! ... Limes squeeze tight and inject concentrated juice into your soul. A little steely and minerally, scents of talc and white flowers add pretty factor. Chalky to close with a lick of green apple, a fabulously refreshing drink once again. Drink now to embrace the freshness but it will age." QWine

94 Points "When riesling is as clean, concentrated and vibrant as this it’s hard not to use the word mouth-watering. Indeed I recall someone saying that the word mouthwatering should be exclusively used in reference to riesling, and never in any other context. There are lemon sorbet, talc, slate and floral influences in this wine and from the first sip it had me entirely on board. It has all the dry-but-juicy length to more-than-match all that has come before. It’s brilliant buying/drinking." The Winefront, Campbell Mattinson

"The undisputed best value wine of the Porongurup region (that should be three times the price!) is the Castle Rock riesling. I honestly am bowled over by this wine, never more so than in the 2020 vintage. It’s an absolute cracker." Erin Larkin, Perth Now

94 Points "Castle Rock’s Porongurup Riesling is a benchmark for the region. From the look of this wine 2020 is going to be a good vintage, if a little earlier drinking than usual. Often the Castle Rock Rieslings can take a little while to come around but this is already drinking beautifully and showcasing the rare purity seen in Riesling from Porongurup. It is very pale in colour with pristine and focussed fruits; lime pith and white pear are lifted by a touch of rock and spice with youthful vitality bursting through. In the mouth the wine is composed – its citrus fruits beautifully matched by a core of lip-smacking but well integrated acidity. The balance is a killer here as is the tight fruit and long zesty finish. Super value and a perfect match to Thai stir-fried pippies." Winepilot, Angus Hughson

93 Points  "Refreshment, thy name is Castle Rock Estate Riesling 2020. As ever, Gardenia aromatics, ultra crisp lemon, lemongrass and grapefruit, the palate trim, sour in a correct lemony form. It’s very refreshing, arguably too taut, but such blinding intensity and purity of purpose. It’s just a little bit edgy, rather than being sumptuous, but my God it’s fresh. And all this for $25? Wow." Oz Wine Review

"The rich citrus fruit is enhanced by attractive “chalky” overtones. There’s no shortage of varietal flavour backed up by precisely balanced acidity. ($25.00)
★★★★☆ Winewise Magazine, Dec 2020

"This 2020 Castle Rock Riesling from the cool & elevated Porongurup region [WA] is steely, and currently delicately restrained However there is a powerful sub-structure of minerality, vibrant fruit and searing acid lurking under the surface. This presages very good cellaring potential The current primary fruit profile is one of zesty lime with backnotes of exotic loquat and talc It is a tightly structured Riesling reflective of its vintage, regionality and deft winemaking by craftsman Rob Diletti." The Grape Hunter, Gilbert Labour

Top 10 Australian Made Wines for Summer - "A fabulous dinner party needs a perky wine, and Castle Rock Estate Riesling ($25) is a top bet. It is a citrusy blend, bursting with tangy lime on the nose and the palate. On the nose, expect flora aromas like lavender and orange blossom, while the palate is swimming with juicy succulent characters. Hailing from Porongurup in Western Australia, the Castle Rock Estate Riesling is the perfect aperitif but also mixes well with the tastes of Asian-fusion." Hunter & Bligh

"There is no pre-tasting note story for this wine. I’m dead-set keen to tell you about this delightful Riesling.  It smells simply divine! It’s intense, it’s refreshing, it’s lively, it’s limey, it’s citrusy, it’s delicately floral and it’s ever so inviting. Can you tell how excited I was after swirling the glass and taking in the aromas? I could’ve sniffed this wine for ages but, I knew I had a job to do. Tasting it (he says with a huge grin on his face). What I said about the aromas can be repeated about the flavours but add to that plenty of citrusy fruit characters, delicate mouth-watering acidity, terrific structure and great length. This is good, really good!" Words from a Wineglass
